The Journey

1) Where did you grow up?

I am originally from Brandfort, a very small town close to Bloemfontein in the Free State. I was raised there and matriculated from High School Staats President Swart.

2) Where did you study?

NWU Pukke

3) What did you study?

BA Human Movement Sciences with Psychology and I did my honours in Biokinetics in 2014. After that I did my Internship year at Wilders Biokineticists in Potchefstroom. I continued with my post graduate studies and finished my Masters degree in Biokinetics in 2016.

4) Why Biokinetics?

At the age of 13 I was tested at a Biokineticist for injury prevention as a high jump athlete. Ever since that day, I knew that wanted to become a Biokineticist and that has never changed. I love sport and helping people to improve their wellbeing. Being a Biokineticist has granted me the opportunity to help people on a daily basis through movement and training (that I love so much!).

5) What is your favorite sport?

I was a high jumper and netball player all through school. I have also competed in most of the field and track sports (athletics) and did cross country. On Varsity level I continued to play netball. Today I like to gym daily and every now and then do a Warrior race with my husband and friends.

6) Have you ever had an injury?

Yes, doing lots of sport from a young age, injuries will always be part of the package. While being in school, I have had multiple knee and ankle injuries. I have also injured my quadriceps during preparation for a run.

During my second year at Varsity, I have had 2 avulsion fractures on my ankle and tore all my lateral ligaments of the same ankle. After 8 months of rehabilitation my ankle was finally ready for high intensity activities.

I have struggled with lower back pain for a very long time and have been diagnosed with bilateral lipomas on my sacro-iliac joints. After removing them surgically, I have started with lower back rehabilitation and I am 100% today!

During my pregnancy I have struggles with pubic symphysis subluxation (due to all the extra pressure and the growing womb) and have maintained that with the correct pre-natal pelvic and core exercise.

7) What do you do in your free time?

I enjoy spending time outside with my husband, little girls and dogs. Watching movies and series or having friends and family over for a braai, are all part of my activities at home.
